Bradford Mela
Persistent torrential rain over recent weeks has forced Bradford Council to cancel this year's Mela.
The Council's Emergency Planning Team assessed conditions at Peel Park over the weekend but the heavily waterlogged ground conditions left them with no other option but to cancel the Mela for safety reasons.
Inspections on Saturday and Sunday revealed pools of standing water in various key areas, with the most vulnerable parts being land for the car park and the ground for the second stage.
There were also concerns that attempts to use the park would severely damage the ground, including community football pitches, and would take several seasons of work to repair.

Blackburn Mela
Following heavy rain in the past few days, the Mela has been cancelled.
A safety check showed that trucks bringing in the stage would be at risk, and the football pitches being used as the car park would be seriously damaged.
With more rain forecast, the Council had no choice but to cancel the event.
A show will now take place at King George's Hall on Sunday July 8, featuring many of the top performers who were due to take to the stage at Witton Park on Saturday and Sunday.
King George's Hall complex has a capacity of around 2,000 and tickets will be available from 2pm, with no pass-outs. |
