The Mela Cup
For the first time ever: 6 competitions in 6 major cites, the Mela Cup will be held at 6 Mela Festivals around the country, with the finals being held at the Edinburgh Mela.
This is a five-a-side competition involving teams of 8 players in each team, with the finalists of the UK regions going on to compete in the Grand Finals.
Developing football at the grassroots level, the competition is open to all of the UK, while helping to encourage the involvement of the Asian community in football, sport and coaching, this initiative is also about social inclusion, building community spirit and developing football skills within a largely neglected Asian football community.
The focus is on football, developing skills and the pure enjoyment of the beautiful game, yet involves mixed teams, with different ages groups, junior and seniors, encouraging the whole community to play together.
Any team can enter, the regional heats will take place at Preston, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
*Edinburgh Mela Regional Finals has been moved to Saturday 1st September at Pilrig Park, Leith, Edinburgh
The allocation for teams at this event has been expanded and we are accepting teams up to 31st August.
