Baishakhi Mela

The Baishakhi Mela celebrates Bangla New Year after a month of festivities. Over 100,000 visitors are expected to descend upon East London's Weavers Field on the 11th of May for the mix of International music, food, fashion, history and culture that make up the Baishakhi Mela.

It is the largest Asian festival in Europe and the largest Bengali festival outside of Bangladesh and India.

Acclaimed as one of the biggest and most important cultural events in Britain, this year's Baishakhi Mela promises to be even more spectacular with a fantastic line up of events that include an exclusive fashion show, cultural procession, celebrity artists and Bangladeshi bazaar.
Baishakhi Mela

| Brick Lane is the place to be to enjoy the delicious Indian offerings that will be served in the many restaurants and street stalls up and down the famous road.

Turning into a bustling marketplace, Brick Lane also boasts stallholders selling handicrafts and traditional Bangladeshi fashion wares as well as face painters and street entertainers.

The Baishakhi Mela is the premier Asian event of the year, the one not to be missed.

The festival is exclusively organised by the Baishakhi Mela Trust, an organisation that is non-profit making and voluntarily run by local community members.

Mela Trust's chair Mr Shiraj Haque said: "We have been organising the Baishakhi Mela for the last 10 years, and every year the mela has grown in size and popularity".

We would like people with fresh ideas to come and be part of the festival, we are constantly looking for ways to improve the mela and would encourage them to become members of our Baishakhi Mela Steering Committee.
