More than 150,000 visitors from all over the Europe are expected to descend upon London's East End for the highly acclaimed global mix of music, food, history and culture that make up the 10th Anniversary of Bengali New Year Festival.

Grand Parade (11.15 AM to 12.30 PM)


The Grand Parade will start from Allen Gardens at 11:15 am. Women, children dressed in colourful traditional clothes & masks, musicians, dancers and community leaders will take part in the parade.

This year, the grand parade will be led by the great emperor symbolizing the traditional landlord of Indian subcontinent. It will be jointly lead by the Tiger, called Tiger out East and an Elephant on wheels, Peacock boat, Bridal shows, Rickshaws and many other colourful festoons.

The parade will move on through Brick lane providing entertainment to the visitors and will reach the main stage of Weavers field at 12:30 pm for official inauguration.


Main Stage -Weavers Fields (1 PM to 7.30 PM)

Weaver’s field will be the main stage of the Baishakhi Mela.

From midday a full range of Bangladeshi sounds will build the rhythm with everything from traditional, folk, Baul, Modern, Fusion, Classical, Contemporary, Bangla Rapp including 2nd and 3rd generation British-Bangladeshi youngsters performance as well as Bollywood to Bengali rock, Bhangra and contemporary east/west fusion.  Plus leading artists from Bangladesh and India will be performing along with local artists.

Among the leading artists from bangladesh, Habib, Ferdouse Wahid, Baby Naznin, Eva Rahman, & satellite Channel group Tarokader, Taroka will perform in this years Mela.

Allen Garden (1.00 PM to 7.00 PM)

Allen garden will have community stage which will be full of songs; dances and dramas from the UK based multicultural community talents.

This stage will also have the Baul songs, and performances of different performers coming from Bangladesh.

Baul Songs (2.00PM to 6.00 PM)

Traditional Folk and Baul songs will be performed to represent the root of Bengali culture. Leading Baul artists will perform in Allen gardens & Weavers field.

There will be an exclusive two hour music show of Baul songs.

Jatra (Musical Opera)

A famous Jatra (Musical opera) group is travailing from Bangladesh to perform in Mela event. Jatra show will take place in in different venues. Details of different shows are as bellows.

Fringe festival


On the eve of Baishakhi Mela the following fringe festivals will be organized - Photography Exhibition, Nerm & D-Code, Ges-e & Osmani Soundz, Asian Dub Foundation and many more at the rich Mix Centre.
Admission free 7.30PM - 12PM.

Boi Lit festival & Book Fair

The word “BOILIT” symbolizes the Baishakhi Literature Festival which will be at the Brady centre.

Leading publishers from Bangladesh will attend this session. This will create a mini version of the Bangla Academy Mela in London for lovers of literature.

Renowned cultural personality Prof. Abdullah Abu Sayeed is expected to open this program.

Ethnic Sports (Kabadi)


‘Kabadi’, is a very traditional and national sport of Bangladesh, it is hoped that the introduction of the sport in to the Baishakhi Mela programme will give Kabadi the exposure is deserves.

The game will take place in Weavers Fields at 1.30 PM.

Arts & Photographic Exhibition:


There will be an art & photographic exhibition which will take place in Allen Gardens with images from renowned local and Bangladeshi artists.
