Bradford Mela
The Bradford Mela Festival started in 1988,
held at Shearbridge Road playing field, behind
the University of Bradford. This humble venue
held a capacity of 10,000 visitors.
The following year the festival moved to
Manningham Park, due to the increase in
popularity, the event attracted over 50,000
visitors. Since its beginnings the festival has
grown so dramatically that moving the venue a
third time was necessary to accommodate all
the guests. |

Now situated at Peel Park, the Mela attracted
over 140,000 visitors last year and is set to be
just as popular this year.
Bradford's Mela
festival is the largest in England and has
influenced the opening of festivals in
Manchester, Edinburgh, and London.
Without the
support of the business community the Mela
could not do the developmental work they want
to, and hope in future to attract even more
sponsors from local businesses, who will make
use of a huge marketing and publicity impact in
reaching up to 140,000 people. |
