Manchester Mega Mela has become one of the life-sized cultural celebrations in the North of England. Organized at Platt Fields Park, Manchester every year, this festival was first observed in 2003.
The key aim of this festival is to celebrate South Asia in the region. The festival brings gastronomy, arts, crafts, dance, clothes, and games to the park for a two-day summer celebration.
The activities range from henna painting (popularly known as mehendi) to Kabaddi game. Tug of War is also planned for 2022. The performers of music and dance are mostly talents of enormous calibre and magnificient popularity.
In Asian languages, Mela basically mean the gathering of people for entertainment and commerce. Hence, some stalls full of of South Asian heritages are placed for enthusiasts of South Asian products.
The organisers form an executive committee representing 5 South Asian countries- India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. While the mela goers are mostly South Asian dispora, Manchester Mega Mela attracts various cultural groups from across the North of England.
The event is Free to attend. As it is mostly organized during the weekends, the families living in the region get a nice opportunity to spend a quality-worth multicultural event in the North of England.
Manchester Mega Mela 2022
Manchester Mega Mela 2022 is going to be held on 23rd July (Saturday) and 24th July (Sunday) at Platt Fields Park, Manchester. The Mela timing for both days is 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm.
The car park fees is 5 GBP.
